Captain Villanueva was one of the Pirate Lords during the time of Lord Cutler Beckett's attempts to eradicate piracy in the Caribbean. Villanueva was the lord of the Adriatic Sea,[1] though had traveled to ports across the Seven Seas, such as in the Philippines and South America.
Captain Villanueva was known to have a heated rivalry with Capitaine Chevalle, and crossed swords with Barbary Corsairs, who operated in the same seas.[2] Wanted dead or alive by the East India Trading Company for crimes including pilfering gold, instigating and participating in a bar fight, and piracy on the Spanish seas. The reward for this bounty was 2,000 guineas.[3] Villanueva evaded capture by the EITC, and joined the Brethren of the Coast at Shipwreck Cove to unite with Jack Sparrow and his followers against Lord Beckett.
Villanueva and his crew witnessed the battle around Calypso's maelstrom. The flag hoisted by Villanueva's crew was the same style as that infamously used by Blackbeard.

In Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (video game), his full name is revealed to be "Eduardo Villanueva".[citation needed]
